The Puyo Puyo series is a popular and addictive action-puzzle game developed by Compile and is now owned by SEGA. Originally a spin-off of the dungeon crawler Madou Monogatari, it has eclipsed its predecessor's popularity and become a well-known e-sport in Japan. The gameplay involves matching 4 "Puyo" of the same color, which leads them to pop. Setting up a configuration in which Puyo pop consecutively is known as "chaining", and deals higher damage to your opponent.
Puyo Puyo Chronicle features many different modes with different rules, as well as an extensive lesson portion that you can browse at your leisure. The main RPG mode also uses this Puyo chain mechanic to deal damage to your enemies, and even gives you simple chains to start battles (though more experienced players can turn this off in the settings).
This is the second fully playable and fully translated English patch from the team at Precise Museum, featuring a complete translation of the game. Everything from text to graphics has been fully translated into English, and it features familiar Puyo Puyo gameplay all presented in an adorably squishy and cute 3D format.
The patch also includes home menu banner fix for the 3DS and an HD texture pack that can be loaded via Citra. Instructions for patching and how to use the HD texture pack can be found in the full download zip's readme.
Installation
Installing on a real 3DS
This requires custom firmware. See 3DS Hacks Guide if you haven't hacked your system.
How to install:
- Open your SD card on your computer.
- Inside of your SD card, enter the "luma" folder. It should already exist.
- Inside of the "luma" folder, enter the "titles" folder. Create it if necessary.
- Copy the "0004000000197500" folder into the "titles" folder.
- If you did it correctly, the following file will exist: "sd:/luma/titles/0004000000197500/romfs/title/ad24_title.narc"
- When you start your copy of Puyo Chronicle, the patch will automatically be applied.
If the game is unaffected:
- Hold Select when turning your 3DS on to get to the Luma3DS configuration menu. Make sure "Enable game patching" is on.
- Make sure you put the patch files in the correct place.
Notes:
- If you absolutely must transfer over FTP, it will take a long time.
- If you don't care about the video files being untranslated, you can delete ./0004000000197500/romfs/movie.
Installing on Citra
Note that this will not work with very old versions of Citra.
How to install:
- Open Citra.
- Go to the "File" menu and click "Open Citra Folder."
- Inside of the Citra folder, open the "load" folder. If it doesn't exist, create it.
- Inside of the "load" folder, go into the "mods" folder. Create it if needed.
- Copy the "0004000000197500" folder into the "mods" folder.
- If you did it correctly, the following file will exist: "<citra-folder>/load/mods/0004000000197500/romfs/title/ad24_title.narc"
- When you start Puyo Chronicle, the patch will automatically be applied if you set it up correctly.
(Optional) HD texture pack tutorial:
- Open Citra, go to "Emulation" > "Configure" > "Graphics".
- Under the "Utility" section, make sure "Use Custom Textures" is checked.
- Click "OK."
- Go to "File" > "Open Citra Folder", copy the "load" folder into the Citra folder.
- If you did it correctly, the following file will exist: "<citra-folder-path>/load/textures/0004000000197500/tex1_512x512_097B9241FD1A9DBD_4.png"
Notes:
- You must increase the internal resolution in Citra. Check the "Emulation" menu.
- A small amount of text will still be low resolution.
User guide
While playing with her best friend Carbuncle, Arle comes across a mysterious book...only to be sucked into its pages?! She suspects that this is the ploy of the usual culprit - the Dark Prince, Satan - but something seems to have happened to him...?
Now known as the "Great Hero", she is tasked with resolving the strange phenomena occurring in this fairytale land in order to find her way back home. Helping her out is her newest friend Ally, an eccentric love-enthusiast who believes in the prophecy, which proclaims that the Great Hero will restore harmony to the land through love.
While Arle has had her fair share of adventures, this may turn out to be the strangest one yet!
