str2hax is an exploit for the EULA app on the Wii that does not require an SD card. It targets the vulnerability (CVE-2009-0689) to enable homebrew on a Wii. To use str2hax, a Wii with an internet connection is required. However, the payload can also be hosted locally if internet access is not available. Learn more.
str2hax was developed by Fullmetal5, with parts from Savezelda.
User guide
To use and install the tool, follow these steps:
- (Optional) If you want to boot a payload from an SD card, format it as FAT32, place it in the root of the SD card, and name it "boot.elf".
- Ensure that your Wii has an active internet connection.
- Go to the settings menu on your Wii and select Internet, then Connection Settings.
- Choose the connection you are currently using.
- Select Change settings and scroll to the right until you see Auto-Obtain DNS.
- Select No, then select Advanced Settings.
- Change the Primary DNS to 18.188.135.9.
- Select Confirm and then Save and run the mandatory connection test.
- When prompted, do not update. Depending on the console, you might brick from the update, and this type of brick requires a hardware modification to fix.
- Go back to the Internet panel and select User Agreements. Select Yes to the question about the Wii Shop Channel/WiiConnect24.
- You will be taken to a screen telling you to review the User Agreements for the Wii. Select Next.
- If you see a pony on the screen telling you to wait, then you have done everything correctly. Do not press 'I ACCEPT' or 'I DO NOT ACCEPT.' The exploit takes 1-2 minutes (1:25 is usually how long mine takes). If it takes longer than 2 minutes, it probably failed. In that case, turn off your Wii and start again from step 9.
