SPACE LOONIES is a space shooter for the Game Boy Advance.

It was participated in the GBAX 2004 Coding Competition.

User guide

An outer space action game where you, a lone space pilot, must defend seven space stations from the Space Loony fleet. Warp to sectors where the enemy ships are present and blow them away! Then, warp to a space station to resupply.

Each wave of Space Loonies is split into groups. On the Sector Map, each enemy appears as a colored blip:

  • Blue - Large Saucer, fires anti-plasma.
  • Red - Small Saucer, fires anti-plasma.
  • Green - Hunter, fires photon torpedoes.
  • Magenta - Electric Saucer, fires bolts of electricity at close range.
  • Cyan - Blaster, fires antiproton pulses.
  • Yellow - Bomber, fires antimatter bombs.

The space stations appear as icons on the Sector Map. If a group of Loonies moves into a sector with a space station, they will attack it and eventually destroy it. If all seven space stations are destroyed, the game is over.

Docking with space stations will replenish the spacefighter's fuel, shields, and missiles. To dock with a space station, the spacefighter must come to a complete stop directly over the center of the station. To undock, the spacefighter need only to engage thrust.

The wave is completed by destroying all Loony enemies present. The player receives a bonus based on the number of space stations still functioning and the amount of fuel, shields, and missiles used.

At the end of five waves, the player is victorious and the game ends.
