Astrohawk Advance is a single player Asteroids/scrolling shoot 'em up style arcade game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

Astrohawk is a public domain game and may be freely distributed. No warranty is implied, although it has been tested on real hardware using the Flash Linker and on several Game Boy Advance emulators.

User guide

The game has 3 difficulty settings, Easy, Normal and Hard. Note that if you choose Easy you will be prompted to select the level at which you begin (with other difficulties you always start at level 0). Levels range from 0 to 23.

Each level in the game requires that you complete a mission which you are informed about prior to beginning the level. Thereafter an icon and four-digit number is displayed at the top-left of the screen to indicate the mission status.

The game is over when your ship is damaged beyond repair. If you have amassed enough points from destroying enemies then you will be prompted to enter your three-character initials in the high score table.

Missions

Timed mission - Timed missions require that you survive the asteroid storm for the specified number of seconds. The number indicates how many seconds remain.

Asteroid mission - Asteroid missions require that you destroy the specified number of small asteroids. The number indicates how many small asteroids you have left to destroy.

Pod mission - Pod missions require that you use your bombs to destroy the specified number of stationary pods on the planet surface. The number indicates how many pods you have left to destroy.

Car mission - Car missions require that you use your bombs to destroy the specified number of cars which are driving around on the planet surface. The number indicates how many cars you have left to destroy.

Gun mission - Gun missions require that you use your bombs to destroy the specified number of stationary guns on the planet surface. The number indicates how many guns you have left to destroy.

Armoury

The status of your ship and your current armoury selections/status are displayed on the right-hand side of the screen.

You can change the armoury selection by repeatedly pressing and holding down the Select button until you highlight the armoury item you wish to change. Continue to hold down the Select button and use the top left and top right buttons to make a selection.

Your ship is damaged each time you are hit by a missile or collide with an enemy. However there are power-ups that can be collected to repair damage. Each time you fire a missile, when your shield is hit or when you drop a bomb you will deplenish your armoury. When an armoury item is completely exhausted the next available item will be automatically selected.

Again there are power-ups that can be collected to replenish or add new items to your armoury.

Enemies

  • Asteroid - When you shoot asteroids they split into smaller (and smaller) ones. Keep shooting the asteroids and when small enough they will explode.
  • Saucer - Saucers will fire missiles when close to your ship. Saucers are immune to your shields and need to be shot four times.
  • Tracker - Trackers home in on your ship and are immune to your shields.
  • Burst - If you shoot a Burst it will explode in a diamond formation of Missiles.
  • Thwomp - Thwomps home in on your ship and are immune to your shields and missiles. However, if you shoot a Thwomp it will pause for a short time.
  • Missile - Various enemies will fire missiles at you! Missiles are immune to your shields but they can be destroyed with your own missiles.
  • Pod - Some missions require that you use your bombs to destroy a number of stationary pods on the planet surface.
  • Car - Some missions require that you use your bombs to destroy a number of cars which are driving around on the planet surface.
  • Gun - Some missions require that you use your bombs to destroy a number of stationary guns on the planet surface. Watch out for the missiles they fire at your ship.

  • 5-Spread Missile.
  • 7-Spread Missile.
