Arthur's Quest is a short top down adventure game for the Game Boy by Piers Bishop inspired by the Arthurian Legend.

The Arthurian Legend is an intriguing myth. Although there's no historical evidence of King Arthur's existence, the timeframe for his hypothetical life would be around 500 AD. However most legends emerged from the 12th century onward, and our collective image of this myth is associated with stone castles, knights in full plate armor, and imagery reminiscent of the mid-to-late medieval era. The aesthetic of the game was deliberately chosen to align with popular versions of the myth.

The game has you play as King Arthur. Merlin will send you around Britain to gather 8 knights of the round table (most versions of the legends have several hundred knights, but that's quite a handful).  You will learn a bit about each knight as you gather them, as well as the overall myth.

Curiously, the holy grail is absent from the game, despite being mentioned. This decision was also deliberate: as indicated in the final text box of the game, modern adaptations of King Arthur's quest often use the grail to prompt characters to realize that the journey itself holds greater significance than its destination.

Arthur's Quest was submitted to Untitled Game Jam #52, Retro Platform Jam #2, Historically Accurate Game Jam 4.
