PS Vita Theme Creator is a user-friendly Windows PC application for creating and editing custom PS Vita themes. It includes a built-in icon editor and a basic icon set for all stock Vita apps. The program is distributed as a standalone .exe and does not require any .NET framework installations.

Written in Visual Basic .NET, the project was created as a learning exercise by the author after hand-coding the XML document for a PS Vita theme manually. The application generates themes that pass the PS Vita Theme Validator.

Note: No image files are provided other than the basic icon set. Users must provide or create their own background images and other assets. An Image Reference tool is included within the program showing the required filenames, resolutions, and file size limits.

User guide

Main Menu

The main menu offers four options:

Create New Theme - Create a theme from scratch, selecting all elements step by step.
Edit Existing Theme - Import an existing theme and modify any option (same workflow as Create, but with fields pre-filled).
Download a Theme - Links to psvt.ovh where themes can be browsed and downloaded.
Create Icons - Opens the basic Icon Creator for making two-color icons for stock Vita apps.
Image Reference - Displays information about all required image filenames, resolutions, and file size limits.

Creating a Theme

The theme creation process is divided into several steps with tracking on the left, a preview on the right, and the work area in the center:

Theme Setup - Set the theme name (displayed in the Vita Theme Menu), author name, theme folder location, and content version.
Lock Screen - Configure the lockscreen background image (480x272, 200KB max), clock color, clock position (lower left, upper left, or lower right), bar background color, border color, font color, and lockscreen preview image.
Notification Bar - Set bar background color, icon color, text color, icon glow color, and notification icons (36x36, 20KB max each).
Page Backgrounds - Configure up to 10 LiveArea pages with background images (960x544, 300KB max), thumbnail images (240x136, 50KB max), wave type, bubble font color, and font shadow.
App Icons - Bulk import an entire icon set from a folder, or set individual icons for each of the 17 factory Vita apps (48x48, 15KB max each).
Home & Misc - Set unselected/selected page indicator images (26x26, 10KB max), background music file (AT9 format, 4MB max), home preview image, and package thumbnail image.

All color fields accept AARRGGBB color codes and also provide a color wheel via a radial button.

Icon Creator

The Icon Creator allows adjusting the foreground and background colors of the supplied basic icon set:

Select an icon from the dropdown (covers all stock Vita app icons).
Preview shows before and after as colors are edited.
Background and Foreground colors can be set via AARRGGBB codes or the color wheel.
Threshold sliders adjust the sensitivity of color replacement (useful for custom icon sets).
Icons can be saved individually or as an entire set to a selected folder.

Alternatively, users may supply their own two-color icon set (orange background, white foreground) and import it using the Set Source Folder option.

Note: For PS3 and PS4 icons, set the foreground color before the background color for correct results.
