Crystal Lake is a turn-based strategy homebrew game developed by Victor Valdez in GB Studio.
Based on characters and story from the Friday the 13th films.
User guide
A misty, peaceful lake, in the middle of the woods.
A Witness of Death. A Cauldron of Blood. A Source of Evil.
Jason Voorhees and his beloved mother have watched and stayed by this lake for centuries.
They are one with the lake, and the lake is one with them.
Someone is jealous. Someone wants to control the evil force contained within the lake.
Unspeakable creatures have now risen from the depths of Hell aiming to take over Crystal Lake.
Jason will not allow that. And his mother is watching...
Gameplay
During the Player's Turn, you can freely move your character and perform various actions. Creatures cannot move during this turn.
You can attack any reachable Creatures, with each attack reducing their Energy by 1 point and usually pushing them back. Attacks are one-directional, but you don't need to be very close to hit. Experiment with your weapon's range.
A light touch counts as a hit. You can focus on one Creature or spread attacks among multiple Creatures. A single attack can damage a group.
Creatures vary in strength, act quickly because your turn ends when all Creatures move, and their turn might begin. Timing is crucial, but turns have a fixed duration. Attack effects depend on collected Power-Ups, and Special Abilities like Sweater or Lightning can be used during this turn.
Any destroyed Creature will banish. Another similar Creature will be summoned shortly to replace the loss. Each stage ends when a specific number of Creatures are destroyed.
You can pause the game with the Start button during your turn. A status window will be displayed containing stage progress, Trainer Mode, and more.
Completing a stage grants bonuses like Special Abilities or Power-Ups. Upon starting any stage, Player's Energy will be replenished and any Special Ability spent, will be available again.
Controls
D-Pad - Move player
A - Attack, Continue to next screen/stage, Resume (while pause)
B - Activate Sweater
Select - Activate Lightning, Switch between Ending and Credits screen
Start - Pause game, Start a new game, Continue to next screen/stage
