SRB2Wii is an unofficial port of the 3D platformer fangame Sonic Robo Blast 2.

Sonic Robo Blast 2 is an open-source, 3D fangame based on the classic Sonic the Hedgehog series, developed using a modified version of the Doom Legacy port of Doom. The game closely emulates the design of the original Sonic games from the Sega Genesis, recreating them in 3D.

Although SRB2 is not yet fully completed, it already offers a wealth of levels, enemies, and fast-paced gameplay that captures the spirit of the original Sonic games.

Installation

There are two main distributions of SRB2Wii, a Wii Linux-based distribution that runs the PowerPC Linux version of SRB2 and a libogc-based distribution.

Wii Linux-based:

  • Current version: 2.0.0 RC4 r6112 (November 27, 2010)
  • SRB2 codebase: 2.0.4
  • Notes: With working controls and partial netgame support, but sometimes inadequate performance in CPU-intensive maps. Requires SRB2 data files and this music.dta file in /srb2wii/ on your SD card.

libogc-based:

  • Current version: 2.0.6 r6752 (April 08, 2011)
  • SRB2 codebase: 2.0.6
  • Notes: Features working controls and faster performance than the Wii Linux-based distribution. Requires SRB2 data files in /srb2wii/ on your SD card.

Both distributions can coexist given that their Homebrew Channel folders are renamed.

Changelog

SRB2Wii v2.0.0 Release Candidate 4 (2010/11/27 10:46)

Features and bugfixes:

  • Using aggressive compile-time optimisation, putting the distribution on a huge diet and fixing up the operating system in general, made SRB2 a TON faster.
  • Updated software versions of all the software in SRB2Wii, which contributes to modernisation and speedup, and removed some unneeded software.
  • Behind the scenes build-system fixes which kill bugs, add features, and make SRB2Wii compile faster so you can get your hands on it faster.

Regressions and bugs:

  • SRB2Wii/mini will not load anymore, so not uploaded this time.
  • Fine text on the splash screen isn't rendered properly. This will be fixed in the future.
  • WaveBird support is not working properly. Everyone who has tried it has not been able to get it to work. Please say if your WaveBird works or not in the thread. Thanks!
  • Due to limitations with wminput, only one Wii Remote can be connected at a time. This can not be fixed (yet at least), it is difficult to solve this in a convenient fashion.
  • SRB2 seems to be having problems with registering input from the second controller (any controller) ingame. I will talk to Alam about this, and hopefully have it fixed (I might have fixed this already, actually, but haven't tried it.)
  • I broke Internet (not that anyone was using it anyway but yeah...). This will be fixed for the final release.
  • WAD loading doesn't completely work right now.
